Two plants can sell the same resin and get very different prices. Plastic scrap is priced per pound, but the number depends on a handful of factors a buyer checks on every load. Knowing them helps you get more for what you already generate.
1. Resin type
Engineering resins such as polycarbonate, nylon and acetal usually bring more than commodity polyolefins. Within a resin, the exact grade matters too: injection grade, blow molding grade and film grade go to different end markets.
2. Single resin or mixed
A clean single-resin stream is worth far more than the same material mixed with other polymers. Separating streams at the press or line is the single biggest price lever most generators have. See the materials we buy.
3. Color
Natural and clear material sells at a premium because buyers can color it however they need. Single colors are next, then mixed colors, then black.
4. Form
Regrind and off-spec pellets feed straight into processing. Purge, lumps and parts need grinding first, and floor sweep needs cleaning or sorting, so they price lower.
5. Contamination
Dirt, paper labels, metal inserts, moisture and oil all lower the price. Some contamination is fine, but it has to be disclosed so the buyer can route the load correctly.
6. Packaging and volume
Gaylords, bales and super sacks load fast and stack well. Full truckloads and recurring volume get the best pricing. We work from 20,000 lbs per pickup.
7. Freight
Distance from your dock to the end buyer comes off the price per pound. Material near processors nets more than material that has to travel across the country.
